Where to get jewelry appraised?
Your jewelry is usually one the most expensive items that you own. If lost, stolen, or willed to others, you will need a value that has credibility with the insurance company, relatives, or the courts so they can verify its true value. A certified jewelry appraisal requires an appraiser with proper credentials and experience.
If you find someone who claims to be able to give you a jewelry appraisall for free, please consider the true value of such. You need an appraisal that gives you the true replacement value and not a wild guess from an unqualified individual.
Van Adams Jewelers has a certified Gemologist and a certified Diamontologist on staff, and all appraisals are performed on the premises by owner Van Adams who is Gemological Institute of America Diamond and Colored Stone (GIA) certified. Your appraisal will come with everything you need for your records and for your insurance company. It includes a full description, including measurements, pictures and retail value that can be used for insurance purposes.
Estate Jewelry Appraisal
When a loved one passes away, among all of the other challenges and difficulties, there comes the need to divide the jewelry portion of the estate. Rely on us to give your family piece of mind. Arriving at a fair and equitable division can be tricky, but a certified appraisal gives all parties the confidence that the values are realistic and proper.
Jewelry Appraisal for Insurance
Since jewelry insurance premiums (the amount you pay annually to maintain your coverage) are typically based on the value of the jewelry, what would happen if that value was incorrect? Insuring your jewelry for its current retail replacement value is vital to repair or replacement.
Certified Jewelry Appraiser
There is no federal or independent body setting qualifications for who may be a jeweler or a jewelry appraiser. Though these may sound like impressive titles, backed by study and expertise, literally anyone can hang out a shingle as a jeweler or an appraiser. Bring your precious jewelry to us and know that they are in good hands.
How is a jewelry appraisal done?
In an appraisal, a certified gemologist or appraisal expert will inspect your jewelry, diamonds and gemstones. Bring documentation such as sales slips, diamond or gemstone grading reports and warranties if you have them.
The appraisal will take into account: • Current competitive retail prices • Brand names, serial numbers, identifying manufacturer's marks on diamonds • The karat weight for gold; the stamping of the percentage on platinum • The type and condition of the metal on prongs and mountings • For diamonds and gemstones, the appraiser will evaluate the 4Cs (cut, color, clarity and carat weight)
