September is always a busy time, with the kids back in school, numerous activities and just getting back into a routine sometimes seems like a daunting task. For us, September means helping our friends at CURE Childhood Cancer raise money and #GoGold4CURE!
People often ask why me and my staff are so passionate about CURE Childhood Cancer. The simple answer is we all love our children and cannot imagine the devastation of a cancer diagnosis in a child.
Did you know that nearly 16,000 children are diagnosed with cancer every year in the USA? It is true! That is a staggering number. Most treatments are adult therapies. Since 1980, only three drugs have specifically been approved for use in children. The increase in childhood cancer over the last 40 years is 24%, yet the National Cancer Institute allocates only 4% of its budget to childhood cancer. We choose to support CURE Childhood Cancer because they really do give help: $4 million or more for targeted research, families in financial distress as a result of their child’s illness, and bereavement care for families that have experienced extraordinary grief from the loss their child, an emptiness none of us wants to experience.
